Deputy CM Sharma Hosts Refreshments and Affectionate Felicitation for Sanitation Workers and Commandos on Diwali—A First for the State
Raipur, October 20
On the occasion of Diwali, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state and local MLA of Kawardha, Shri Vijay Sharma, set an example by warmly honoring sanitation workers—a first in Chhattisgarh. He invited approximately 200 Sanitation Sisters (Swachhata Didi) and Sanitation Commandos from the municipal area to his Kawardha residence, had refreshments with them, and affectionately presented them with gifts, sweets, and firecrackers.
This event, held on the day of Diwali as a tribute to the sanitation warriors, was the first of its kind in the entire state. District Panchayat President Shri Ishwari Sahu, Municipal President Shri Chandra Prakash Chandravanshi, Shri Veer Singh Patel, Shri Shiv Agrawal, CMO Shri Rohit Sahu, along with a large number of public representatives, sanitation sisters, and commandos, were present on the occasion.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma stated that the meaning of Diwali is not just to decorate one’s own house with lamps, but also to honor the hands that keep our city clean and beautiful every day. He said that sanitation workers are the ‘Lamps of Light for Cleanliness’ in our society. Just as a lamp dispels darkness, these industrious warriors of cleanliness remove dirt and disorder from our lives.
He added that these Sanitation Sisters and brothers have made the greatest contribution to the successful implementation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the ground. Shri Sharma urged municipal officers and public representatives to communicate with the sanitation workers from time to time and appreciate their work.
During the program, the Sanitation Sisters mentioned that the honor received from the Deputy Chief Minister is inspirational for them and has increased their morale manifold. They reiterated their resolve to maintain the cleanliness of the city and extended Diwali greetings to Shri Sharma. All the sanitation workers collectively expressed their gratitude to the local MLA of Kawardha, Shri Vijay Sharma, for this honor.
The citizens and social organizations of the town also praised Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma’s innovative initiative, saying that the people who truly deserve the most respect in society are those who wake up before sunrise every day, without seeking any publicity, to make the entire city clean. All those present at this heartfelt event appreciated the tireless efforts of the sanitation workers.
The Sanitation Worker is the Real Lamp Who Spreads the Light of Cleanliness
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that today’s event was not just a program for distributing gifts, but a strong message to establish the dignity and importance of sanitation workers in society, proving that the real lamps are those who illuminate the lives of others through their work.
