Raipur, 08 September
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today visited the residence of the late Mrs. Rajni Tai Upasane, Raipur’s first woman MLA and social worker, located at Police Line in the capital Raipur, and paid his tribute. He fondly remembered Rajni Tai Upasane’s contributions and met with the grieving family members to offer his condolences. On this occasion, former Rajya Sabha MP Shri Kailash Soni, Shri Santosh Sharma, Shri Jagdish Upasane, and other family members were present.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that the demise of Rajni Tai is an irreparable loss to society. The courage and patience she displayed during the challenging period of the Emergency is truly inspirational. During her tenure, she prioritized the welfare of the people and the development of Raipur above all. Her simplicity, honesty, and deep connection with society earned her a distinct identity. She was consistently active in advocating for the rights of women and underprivileged communities. Shri Sai prayed to the Almighty for peace to the departed soul.
It is noteworthy that Mrs. Rajni Tai Upasane, Raipur’s first woman MLA and a social worker, recently passed away at the age of 92. In 1977, by winning the election as a Janata Party candidate, she created history by becoming Raipur’s first woman legislator. At a time when women’s participation in politics was limited, gaining the public’s trust was a testament to her courage and struggle.
