Chhattisgarh has received a major boost in urban housing development as the Government of India has approved central assistance of over Rs 435 crore for the construction of 28,461 new permanent houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0. The approval by the Central Sanction and Monitoring Committee paves the way for large-scale housing construction aimed at ensuring \u201csafe and dignified living conditions\u201d for urban poor families.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Central Sanction and Monitoring Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on 23 February 2026. With this approval, thousands of economically weaker families in Chhattisgarh will soon be able to realise their dream of owning a permanent home.<\/p>\n
Across India, PM Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 is being implemented to fulfil Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s vision of \u201cHousing for All.\u201d In Chhattisgarh, the programme is being executed actively under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration & Development Minister Shri Arun Sao, focusing on providing \u201caffordable, secure and inclusive housing solutions\u201d for urban residents.<\/p>\n
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao has been regularly reviewing the progress of the scheme and instructing officials to expedite construction and ensure the transparent allotment of houses. These efforts aim to create a \u201csimpler and more accountable system\u201d for delivering housing benefits to eligible families.<\/p>\n
The Central Sanction and Monitoring Committee approved 263 housing projects submitted by the state government. These include 211 Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) projects and 52 Affordable Housing Partnership (AHP) projects. Through these projects, 28,461 houses will be constructed in urban local bodies across the state, significantly strengthening the state\u2019s housing infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Under the Beneficiary-Led Construction component, 13,058 houses have been sanctioned. Eligible beneficiaries will be able to build permanent homes on their own land. In the first batch, 3,844 houses across 52 projects have been approved with central assistance of Rs. 57.66 crore. In the second batch, 9,214 houses across 159 projects have been approved with Rs. 138.21 crore in central assistance. The average project cost per house under this component is approximately Rs. 3.89 lakh, ensuring affordable housing for economically weaker sections.<\/p>\n
Under the Affordable Housing Partnership component, a total of 15,363 houses will be constructed. These residential complexes will be developed on government land through public agencies and will include modern housing facilities. The projects will also support slum redevelopment and affordable housing for economically weaker groups, helping promote \u201cinclusive urban development and improved living standards.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the first phase, 6,996 houses across 24 projects have been approved, while 8,367 houses across 28 projects have been approved in the second phase. The per-unit cost for these houses is Rs. 5.75 lakh, and all projects are scheduled to be completed within 36 months.<\/p>\n
The Government of India had set a target for Chhattisgarh to submit proposals for 50,000 houses by March 2026. The state exceeded this target by submitting proposals for 52,588 houses, demonstrating the administration\u2019s proactive approach towards housing development. This achievement was also appreciated during the Central Sanction and Monitoring Committee meeting. The Urban Administration and Development Department prepared detailed project reports, land records, beneficiary lists, and required entries on the Unified Web Portal in accordance with central government guidelines. Financial assistance will be transferred directly to beneficiaries\u2019 bank accounts through Aadhaar-based Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring \u201ctransparency and efficiency in public service delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n
*Innovative Demonstration Housing Project Approved in Ratanpur*<\/p>\n
The committee also approved an innovative Demonstration Housing Project in Ratanpur, Bilaspur district. This project is part of a special initiative by the Government of India aimed at promoting modern and advanced construction technologies. Under the project, 40 houses will be constructed using innovative building technologies by the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC). The State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) will make these houses available to eligible beneficiaries on rent. Located in the prominent tourist destination of Ratanpur, the project is expected to contribute not only to social housing but also to the development of tourism infrastructure. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao played a key role in securing this project for the state.<\/p>\n
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai described the approval as a significant achievement for Chhattisgarh under PM Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0. He stated that the approval of more than Rs. 435 crore in central assistance for 28,461 houses will help thousands of families realise their dream of owning a permanent home. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the support and said that 263 housing projects have been approved for the state, with construction expected to be completed within the next 36 months. He also highlighted the special housing project in Ratanpur, where 40 houses will be built using advanced construction technology, marking a new step towards \u201cmodern, sustainable and citizen-centric housing development.\u201d<\/p>\n
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Shri Arun Sao said the Chhattisgarh Government is ensuring the effective implementation of PM Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 to provide housing security for urban poor families. Regular departmental review meetings are being conducted to monitor the progress of the scheme. With the cooperation of urban local bodies, eligible beneficiaries are being identified and connected with the scheme in a time-bound manner.
