The fifth anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in Chhattisgarh was observed as a powerful confluence of \u201cpublic participation\u201d and awareness on November 19. The Social Welfare Department, in coordination with various state departments, organised pledge-taking programmes at a massive scale across the state, drawing enthusiastic involvement from all sections of society.<\/p>\n
The state-level main event was held at the Hotel Marriott, Raipur, in the presence of Shri Lokesh Kawadiya, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Divyangjan Finance & Development Corporation, Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, Shri Bhuvesh Yadav, and Director Smt. Roktima Yadav, officials and employees from several departments. Participants took the pledge for a \u201cdrug-free India\u201d and expressed a collective commitment to eliminating substance abuse from society.<\/p>\n
Statewide events infused fresh momentum into this national campaign. At 543 locations, 24,749 participants joined the pledge event, while 69,356 students participated in 505 programmes across universities and colleges. Similarly, in 7,452 schools, 3,98,675 students and teachers took a pledge to contribute to a \u201cdrug-free society\u201d.<\/p>\n
A total of 1,20,410 participants took the pledge in 9,355 programmes held for health workers and self-help groups, reaffirming the message of quitting addiction and motivating others. Additionally, 57,570 individuals participated in 2,103 other events, further strengthening the campaign. Altogether, 6,70,760 citizens pledged\u2014both online and offline\u2014at 19,958 locations to build a \u201chealthy and safe society\u201d.<\/p>\n
Notably, the Government of India\u2019s national-level ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organised on November 18 at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The live telecast of the event was viewed widely across Chhattisgarh, with all districts, departments, government offices and educational institutions participating collectively, ensuring wider connection with the national programme.<\/p>\n
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, led by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is a significant national initiative aimed at protecting citizens from the social ills of drug addiction, tobacco use and alcohol abuse, while steering the youth away from such harmful tendencies. The campaign continues to strengthen \u201ccommunity-based awareness\u201d, educational activities, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services to help affected individuals return to everyday life.<\/p>\n
On the same day, the Social Welfare Department initiated a multi-departmental coordinated movement with several other departments to promote the de-addiction campaign across the state. The remarkable public participation has sent a \u201cstrong message at the national level\u201d that Chhattisgarh is firmly committed to building a \u201cdrug-free, healthy and aware society\u201d.
