The \u201cHealthy Women, Empowered Families\u201d campaign, run by the Chhattisgarh government, has created a new milestone by delivering quality healthcare services to remote forest regions. In the PM-JANMAN (Prime Minister Tribal Justice Mega Campaign) area of Lormi block in Mungeli district, antenatal care (ANC) check-ups for all 87 registered pregnant women have been successfully completed.<\/p>\n
Under this campaign, 15 high-risk pregnancies were identified, and these women were provided specialized investigations including ultrasound scans by expert doctors at the Lormi Mother and Child Hospital.<\/p>\n
Safe Motherhood Support for PVTG Communities<\/p>\n
Where once Baiga tribal women, classified under Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), were deprived of proper health facilities during childbirth, today, ANC check-ups, nutritional counselling, and institutional delivery preparations have brought new hope for safe motherhood in their lives.<\/p>\n
The state’s 102 Mahatari Express and Mobile Medical Units have made healthcare services accessible even in remote hills and dense forests. The continuous efforts of Mitanins (community health workers) and ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) have played a crucial role in connecting these women with healthcare services.<\/p>\n
During the campaign, not only were medical services provided, but awareness was also spread among women and adolescent girls. They were counseled on:<\/p>\n
Menstrual hygiene<\/p>\n
Weekly iron and folic acid supplementation<\/p>\n
Balanced diet<\/p>\n
Additionally, screenings for sickle cell disease, tuberculosis, blood pressure, diabetes, cervical and breast cancer were also conducted.<\/p>\n
Statewide PMSMA Campaign and Impact<\/p>\n
It is noteworthy that under the \u201cHealthy Women, Empowered Families\u201d initiative, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) was specially conducted from 24th to 26th September across Chhattisgarh. During this period, over 51,000 pregnant women were examined through 843 government health facilities. Among these, more than 10,000 high-risk pregnancies were identified and provided with timely specialist consultations and care. Also, ultrasounds were conducted for 8,619 women, enhancing accuracy and trust in maternal health services.<\/p>\n
This achievement reflects the state government’s priority to reduce maternal mortality and ensure safe motherhood for every pregnant woman.<\/p>\n
