Virtual Meeting Held by Transport Secretary on Traffic Issues Caused by E-Rickshaws and Autos Discussion on Monitoring, Regulation, and Control Measures for Smooth and Organized Traffic

Raipur, March 6
A virtual meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Transport Secretary & Commissioner Shri S. Prakash to discuss traffic issues caused by e-rickshaws and autos and their possible solutions. The meeting included officials from divisional headquarters of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Ambikapur, and Jagdalpur district administrations. Additional Transport Commissioner Shri D. Ravishankar was also present.
Given the continuous rise in the number of e-rickshaws and autos, the meeting focused on measures to ensure smooth and organized traffic flow. It was noted that the number of registered e-rickshaws (goods & passenger) in various districts is:
Raipur – 13,374,
Bilaspur – 4,493,
Durg – 4,038,
Ambikapur – 1,311,
Jagdalpur – 41.
Similarly, the registered autos (goods & passenger) are:
Raipur – 20,306,
Bilaspur – 14,867,
Durg – 9,602,
Ambikapur – 4,429,
Jagdalpur – 3,431.
With numbers rising continuously, discussions were held on the challenges of regulating and monitoring these vehicles effectively.
Raipur District Administration Develops a Zone-Wise Plan
The Raipur district administration presented a zone-wise plan for the smooth and systematic operation of e-rickshaws and autos. Raipur city has been divided into five zones for better traffic management.
Discussion on Existing Laws and Regulations for E-Rickshaws
The meeting also included a detailed discussion on the central and state laws governing e-rickshaws. The powers and responsibilities of the state government and district administration were reviewed. Officials from different districts were asked to share insights on the challenges faced due to e-rickshaws and autos in their regions.
Suggestions Sought for Solutions
To address the rising number of e-rickshaws and autos, district officials were instructed to submit any proposals or suggestions through the District Road Safety Committee or district administration to the State Road Safety Committee or Transport Department.
