Won’t attend NDA meet if ban on Gaikwad not revoked: Shiv Sena


The Shiv Sena has threatened that it will not attend the April 10 NDA meeting if the flying ban on its MP Ravindra Gaikwad, imposed by domestic airlines after he beat up an Air India officer, is not revoked.

Addressing a news conference, party MP Sanjay Raut said there has been a conspiracy behind the ban and the party will expose it at an appropriate time.

Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha witnessed chaos as Shiv Sena members, including Union minister Anant Geete, surrounded Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju after he refused to heed to their demand for revoking the flying ban.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad has expressed regret for the incident that took place on 23rd of last month in Delhi bound Air India flight.

In a letter to Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Mr Gaikwad said, it could have been no one’s intention to have let the situation aggravate to the serious level.

He requested the Minister for lifting the ban imposed by the airlines on his flying. He said, while the ongoing investigation will bring out the factual sequence of event to fix the responsibility, this incident may not be seen as a reason for likely recurrence of such an event in future also.Our correspondent reports that several airlines including public carrier Air India had barred the MP from flying following an alleged incident of attacking a Air India employee.
