The head of US Pacific Command, Admiral Harry Harris has said China is trying to win dominance in the Indo-Pacific region as it issues a challenge globally.
At a House Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington yesterday, Admiral Harris said China’s impressive military buildup could soon challenge the US across almost every domain.
Harris said he was most concerned about China’s activity in the South China Sea including the militarization of 7 outposts, despite a ruling by an Arbitral Tribunal under the Law of the Sea Convention refuting Chinese claims.
He said Beijing is also investing in the next wave of military technologies to include hypersonic weapons, advanced space and cyber capabilities and artificial intelligence.
Harris warned China was aiming to undermine rules-based international order, not just in the Indo-Pacific, but on a global scale.
