The United Nations Security Council has asked the Saudi-led military coalition to keep all Yemen air and sea ports open to humanitarian aid deliveries. During a closed-door meeting, the Council members expressed concern about the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen and stressed the importance of keeping all of Yemen’s ports and airports functioning.

Earlier, the UN Humanitarian Chief Mark Lowcock briefed the Council that the war-torn nation will face the largest famine of the world if Yemen blockade is not lifted. He called for immediate resumption of regular air flights to Aden and Sanaa by UN and its partners and immediate access to all ports for food, fuel and medicine.

The Coalition tightened its blockage in Yemen this week after a ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels was intercepted near the Saudi capital.
