Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists killed in encounter in J&K

In Jammu & Kashmir, three non-local Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in an encounter in Magam area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.

According to sources, the Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and the CRPF launched a joint search operation in Khar Mohalla of Magam area early morning today.

They said as the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight in which, three militants were killed.

Arms and ammunition were recovered from the gunfight site. There was no report of any fatal or non-fatal casualties on the forces side.

Meanwhile, a fresh gunfight raged in the Zurhama forest area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late this afternoon.

An Army man was martyred, while at least two to three others injured in the ongoing gunfight.

A police official said that a joint team of Army’s 23 Para commandos, 160 TA, SOG and CRPF are on job in the forest area in Gujarpati, Zurhama in Kupwara.

Forces launched anti-militancy operation on the basis of information about the presence of militants in the area.
