The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to deliberate upon the suggestions of a Delhi-based NGO to ensure compliance of the law on prevention of sexual harassment at workplaces.
A bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, directed the Centre to file its response by the 19th of next month.
The NGO, in its plea, sought immediate and proper implementation of the provisions of Sexual Harassment At Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition) Act.
It said, local district officers and complaints committees were not being appointed and the victims did not have an appropriate forum to file complaints.
The PIL said, it will not be possible to effectively implement the provisions of the Act unless district officers are notified in all the districts and local complaints committees are constituted.
The NGO said, the cases of sexual harassment of women at workplaces are on a rise.
