Indian Railways has doubled the vacancies for Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician posts from 26 thousand 502 to 60 thousand. In a tweet, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said, this will ensure more jobs in Railways.

Railway Recruitment Board had announced the recruitment for Assistant Loco Pilots and Technicians for 26 thousand 502 posts in February this year and more than 47 lakh candidates have applied for the post. The first set of computer-based tests for the recruitment is scheduled to be held on 9th of this month.

Railway Ministry in a release said, the maximum care has been taken to allocate centres to the candidates in their own or nearby cities. The vacancies are spread over different Railway Zones and States and candidates from all over India have applied.

It said, about 40 lakh candidates have been accommodated within 500 Kilometres. Railways said, priority has been given to women and Divyang candidates in allocating centres within their own or nearby cities. However, in few states, the candidates have applied in very large proportions as compared to the available capacity of suitable exam centres.

The Ministry said, from Bihar about 9 lakhs, Uttar Pradesh 9.5 lakhs and from Rajasthan about 4.5 lakh candidates have applied and hence interstate movement of some candidates from these states is inevitable.

Railway said, it has been ensured that the candidates who had applied early have been accommodated in their own or nearby cities and states, whereas those candidates who had applied late have been allocated to farther cities.

The Ministry said, centralized Computer Based examination provides the opportunity to reduce the travel requirements.
