Janta Dal (United) on Saturday decided to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre. This decision was taken at party’s national executive meeting in Patna which was chaired by Party President Nitish Kumar.

It may be noted BJP President Amit Shah has offered Nitish Kumar to join NDA. JD(U) becomes part of the NDA after four years. Participants at the meeting were informed about the circumstances leading to the break up with the RJD and new alliance with BJP.

Loyalists of Sharad Yadav, who have opposed joining hands with the BJP, are also organised a programme – Jan Adalat in Patna. Mr. Yadav said he is not against any body. Sharad said he is with the people of the state. He said Nitish insulted the mandate given to the grand alliance in the 2015 assembly polls. Sharad said he is still with grand alliance.

The two meetings make it clear that battle lines within the JD(U) are drawn and the party may be heading for a split after the disintegration of the grand alliance in Bihar.

JD(U) principal secretary general KC Tyagi, however, maintained that there is no split and that Mr Yadav has left the party voluntarily.
