The National Investigation Agency, NIA has dealt a blow to the morale of terror and separatist groups by crackdown on flow of funds from the neighbouring country to finance unrest in Kashmir.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said this while inaugurating the new headquarters office complex of the NIA in New Delhi today.

He said, the government initiated steps to grant full autonomy to the NIA in investigations. Earlier the NIA sought the Ministry of Home Affairs nod to proceed for action.

Mr Singh said, the agency has proved its credibility in the last eight-and-a-half years by conducting fair, credible and professional investigations. He said, the NIA investigations have resulted into 95 per cent conviction rate.

The Home Minister said, terrorism is a road block for development and it is a curse for the civilized society.

NIA was set up after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks as the central counter-terrorism investigation organization.

It was given the mandate to investigate serious offenses related to terrorist activities affecting the sovereignty, security and integrity of the country.
