
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the government will fix Minimum Support Price of crops at least 1.5 times of production cost. He said it is also working with states to ensure farmers get announced MSP. Addressing farmers at the annual Krishi Unnati Mela in New Delhi today, Mr Modi stressed that farmers should get maximum benefits of their produce. He reiterated his government’s commitment to double farmers’ income by 2022.
Mr Modi said several modern apps have been launched for farmers and the latest technologies will help increase productivity.
Mr Modi said Central Government is working closely with the states so that farmers can get loans more easily as it has often been seen that small farmers have trouble getting loans from cooperative societies. He said for this, computerization of all primary agricultural cooperative societies in the country is being done faster.
The Prime Minister said there was a record production of milk and vegetables in the country last year just because of hard work of farmers. He said arrangements are in place so that farmers can easily sell out their produce. He said the government has given around 1300 crore rupees for National Bamboo Mission in this year’s budget. The PM asked farmers not to burn crop residue, cut urea consumption and boost production of oilseeds to reduce imports of cooking oil.
Mr Modi also inaugurated the Jaivik Kheti portal and laid the foundation stone of 25 Krishi Vigyan Kendras in 13 states. He also conferred the Krishi Karman Award and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya Krishi Vigyan Protsahan Puruskar on the occasion.
