In Colombia, at least 17 people were killed and more than two dozen injured after heavy rains caused landslides in the city of Manizales. The Mayor of Manizales city, Jose Octavio Cardona said thirty homes collapsed in different sectors of the city yesterday.

Dozens of hillsides gave way in Manizales after the city received the equivalent of a full month’s rain in the span of five hours.

The inundation caused at least 40 to 50 avalanches of mud and rock that destroyed homes and left several roadways impassable. Earlier this month, more than 300 people were killed in landslides in Mocoa, in southern Putumayo province.
