Prime Minister Narendra Modi today attacked the previous Congress government for its inability to bring Kartarpur Sahib under India during the 1947 Partition. Mr Modi was speaking after releasing a 350-rupee commemorative coin as part of the birth anniversary celebrations of 10th Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh in New Delhi.
Referring to the Kartapur Sahib corridor, he said now, devotees do not have to look at the shrine in Pakistan using binoculars and they could visit the place without visa using the corridor. He said, the corridor is an atonement of the mistake that took place in August 1947.
Mr Modi also came down on the Congress for the 1984 riots that took place following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He said, the central government is making efforts to get justice for the period of injustice which started in 1984.
The Prime Minister lauded Guru Gobind Singh’s lofty ideals and values of the selfless service to humanity, devotion, heroism and sacrifice, and urged the people to follow his path. Mr. Modi said, he was a great warrior, philosopher, poet and guru who fought against oppression and injustice. He said, Guru Gobind Singh’s teachings to people focused on breaking the barriers of religion and caste.
Guru Gobind Singh’s message of love, peace and sacrifice are equally relevant today. The Prime Minister urged the people to make a resolve to walk the talk on the 11-point path shown by Guru Gobind Singh.
