In Israel, police have recommended that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be charged over alleged bribery cases. In a statement, the police said there was enough evidence to indict Mr Netanyahu for bribery, fraud and breach of trust in two separate cases.
The police named Arnon Milchan, a Hollywood producer and Israeli citizen, and an Australian businessman, saying that for nearly a decade, they gave gifts to Mr Netanyahu and his family.
Police also alleged that Mr Netanyahu asked the publisher of an Israeli newspaper for positive coverage in exchange for help in reining in a rival publication. Now, the country’s Attorney General will decide whether to file charges.
Meanwhile, speaking on Israeli television, minutes after the police made their recommendations public, Mr Netanyahu said he had never sought personal gains from politics. He said, the allegations were baseless and that he would continue as Prime Minister.
