
Earth Day in being observed today all over the world with the message to protect environment.
On the Occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Earth Day is a day of gratitude to Mother Earth and a day to reiterate firm resolve to keep the planet clean and green.
In a series of tweets, he said, it is the duty of the people to live in harmony with the plants, animals and birds we share the Earth with. He said, people owe this to the future generations. Mr Modi hoped that this year’s theme of ‘Environmental and Climate Literacy ’ helps create awareness on protecting nature & natural resources.
The Earth day is celebrated worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The day was proposed at the UNESCO conference in 1969 and the first Earth Day celebrations took place in 1970.
The campaign theme for this year is ‘Environmental and Climate Literacy’.
In a message, Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu called on people to remember that Mother Earth can satisfy everyone’s need but not everyone’s greed.
