CWG2018: Manu Bhaker bags Gold in Women’s 10m Air Pistol event taking India’s Gold tally to six

At the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, the gold rush continued for India in weightlifting events today. Punam Yadav added a fifth Gold in the competition with a top finish in the 69kg category.

On the fifth day of Games India also met success in Shooting events. Manu Bhaker won the women’s 10 metres air pistol event, while Heena Sidhu added a Silver in the same category. Earlier, Mirabai Chanu, Sanjita Chanu, Sathish Sivalingam and Venkat Rahul Ragala had won the gold medals for the country in the ongoing edition.

In women’s hockey, India defeated England 2-1 in a Pool A match. India staged a late comeback inj the game after Englad took an early lead in the opening minute. India hit back in through Rani in the 42 minute, and Gurjit in the 48th minute. Now, the women have to get past South Africa for a passage into the knockout stage.
In athletics, India’s Manish Singh and Irfan Kolothum registered disappointing performances in the Men’s 20 kilometre Race Walk. Manish took the sixth spot, while Irfan finished 13th in a field of 15 athletes.

In women’s 20 kilometre Race Walk, Khushbir Kaur finished fourth. Jemima Montag of Australia won the gold medal with a time. India have now won six gold, Two Silver and One Bronze.
