“We cannot build a new India while millions of our brothers & sisters suffer the scourge of poverty. If voted to power in 2019, the Congress is committed to a Minimum Income Guarantee for every poor person, to help eradicate poverty & hunger. This is our vision & our promise,” stated Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
Gandhi was addressing ‘Kisaan Abhaar Sammelan’ organised here for expressing gratitude to farmers for voting Congress to power in Chhattisgarh.
We have taken a decision that in the year 2019, the Congress Government at the Centre will guarantee “Minimum Income” to every poor individual in the country, said the Congress President.
He further said that We have now taken a step that no govt has taken before. We have decided to give every poor person a Minimum Income Guarantee when we form the govt. This is a historic step taken to eradicate hunger and poverty.
Farmers pay for insurance, but when their crops are damaged due to excess rainfall or drought, they don’t get the insurance money, said Gandhi, alleging that insurance companies make profit out of it.
“Land is taken away from farmers and given to industrialists. Land Acquisition policy ensured that if the land is not put to use within 5 years of acquisition then it will be given back to the farmer,” said Gandhi.
Whenever Congress took up the issue of farm loan waiver, the previous BJP govt of Chhattisgarh denied claiming the govt had no money, accused Congress President.
