An elite force of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday gunned down as many as four suspected ultras in an encounter took place in worst insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, said police.
The exchange of fire between security personnel and rebels took place at Karkanguda forest of Chintalnar-Jagargunda area close to the border of Sukma and Bijapur at 6 am today, said Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P.
The officer further informed that troopers of CRPF’s Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 201st battalion undertaking anti-naxal exercise were attacked naxals when they reach Karkanguda forest following which a retaliatory action was launched. Unable to withstand the firing of security personnel, ultras fled deep inside the forest.
“While undertaking search at the spot of encounter, troopers have recovered four bodies of suspected ultras clad in black uniform. Besides, one Insas rifle, two 303 rifle along with explosives and ammunitions were also recovered from the spot,” stated Sundarraj.
No causality in force side was reported in the encounter, added the officer.
