The model code of conduct in Chhattisgarh came into force on Saturday with the announcement of assembly polls schedules in five states.
Following the announcement of poll schedules in states including including Chhattisgarh which is going to witness elections in two phases, Chief Electoral Officer has directed district election officers to ensure strict compliance of model code of conduct.
Addressing the media in Raipur, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Subrat Sahoo informed that as many as 18 insurgency-hit constituencies in the state will be going to witness polling in the first phase scheduled on November 12 while people is remaining 72 constituencies are going to exercise their right to vote in the second phase on November 20.
Elaborate security will be ensured for polling in 18 constituencies under 16 naxal-hit district, said the officer.
Sahoo further informed that gazette notification for the first phase will be issued on October 16 and last date for filing nominations has been scheduled on October 23 and scrutiny of nominations would be completed in one day. Contestants may withdraw their name by October 26, before the first phase of polling on November 12.
The gazette notification for the second phase will be issued on October 26, the officer informed, elaborating that the last date to file nominations will be November 2.
Contestants may withdraw their candidatures until November 5 after which 72 constituencies would go to polls on November 20, Sahoo added.
The counting of votes will be done on December 11, he added.
For convenience of female voters, five ‘pink booth’ in each assembly constituencies will be setup and these polling stations will be completely managed by women staffs.
