The BJP has questioned Congress President Rahul Gandhi for the violence that has taken place in various parts of the country resulting into death of a child due to the Bharat Bandh called by the Congress and several other parties.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad said, it is the essence of democracy that hospitals, ambulances, and medicine shops are allowed to function without any hindrance.
But, with the death of a 2-year-old in Bihar today, an environment of fear is being created. He said people are suffering and facing hardships. Mr Prasad said, in the democracy, people have the right to protest but without indulging in violence.
He said, buses are being targeted and medical stores are forced to be closed. He said people, are not supporting the bandh and opposition is unnerved. Mr Prasad said we are with the people and the government has taken steps to control inflation.
Mr Prasad said petrol and diesel prices are high due to the crisis in the international market. He said the government has been working very hard to resolve people’s problem. Mr Prasad said, the government does not belong to one particular family and it is working for the entire country. Mr Prasad humbly requested former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to debate with him on economic issues in Parliament.
Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi termed the Bharat Bandh as an attempt to spread rumours and confusion among the masses. Mr Naqvi took on the Congress, saying it has been a history-sheeter on the issue of price rise whenever it was in power. He said the Congress is now shedding crocodile tears. Mr Naqvi said, the Congress is a cruise of corruption and whichever party joins it will sink with it.
Addressing a protest rally in New Delhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi criticised the government over rising prices of petrol and diesel. He said rupee has never been weaker in the last 70 years. He alleged the government is doing nothing for the farmers.
Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh claimed that the government has not done anything for the farmers and the youth. Trinamool Congress stayed away from the protest saying that strikes like Bharat Bandh will be a waste of working hours.
The party had asked its cadres and common people to keep shops and establishments functional today. The party, however, supported the issues of fuel price rise. BJD also refused to support the Bharat bandh called by the Congress.
