Bhupesh Baghel sworn-in as Chhattisgarh’s CM

Amid galaxy of political personalities, Congress state chief Bhupesh Baghel on Monday took sworn-in as Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh at Indoor Stadium in Raipur. Meanwhile, the party MLAs TS Singhdeo and Tamradhwaj Sahu took the oath of office and secrecy from Governor Anandiben Patel.

On the occasion, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and politicians from different parties attended the swearing-in ceremony of Baghel as CM.

The ceremony, which was scheduled to be held at the science college group, was shifted to Indoor Stadium due to continuous rain.

Notably, the newly-elected third Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel was born on 23rd August 1961 in capital Raipur. His father Nandkumar Patel was a progressive farmer of Patan under district Durg. Baghel was elected as an MLA in the undivided Madhya Pradesh for the first time in the year 1993. He was elected in the year 1998 to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly while in 2003 and 2013 to the newly-carved out Chhattisgarh.

Baghel was elected for the fifth time as an MLA in the year 2018 from Paatan area. He is interested in reading, Yoga and sports fields. He had successfully organized ‘Swabhimaan’ rallies on 19th July 2000 at Raipur and 30th August 2000 at Bilaspur. Baghel played a significant role in organizing community marriages of Chhattisgarh ‘Manvakurmi Samaj’ at Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Selood.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel held several Ministerial posts in the then undivided Madhya Pradesh. He assumed the Ministry in the new state of Chhattisgarh in the year 2000 as Revenue, Rehabilitation and Relief Works and Public Health Engineering Departments. He was a member of the Chhattisgarh Assembly working committee in 2013 and Public Accounts Committee in 2014-2015.
