The Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed aid and devices worth Rs 35 crore to over 18,000 divyang people at the biggest Samajik Adhikarita Camp organized at Race Course ground in Rajkot on Thursday.
Organised by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in association with Kanpur based CPSU ALIMCO, this camp became the country’s biggest ever camp in terms of the number of beneficiaries.
In his address, PM urged the start-up sector to look at ways through which innovation and technology can transform lives of Divyang sisters and brother. He assured all the required assistance on behalf of his government for such innovations.
Reiterating the commitment of his government towards Divyangs, PM said as many as 5500 aid device distribution programmes for Divyangs have been held since his government came in power whereas only 55 such camps were organized between 1993 to 2013.
He said his government has not just created the word Divyang for specially impaired people but also developed the universal signing system to remove communication barriers between Divyangs across the country.
He asked families of Divyangs to take advantage of social security schemes.PM Modi on the occasion praised the work of Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry for the welfare of Divyangs.
PM Modi would now head for Aaji dam on the outskirts of Rajkot city to dedicate various irrigation related initiatives to the nation. The dam will be filled up with water from the Narmada river under the Sauni project. Later, he would lead a roadshow from Aaji dam up to the Rajkot city airport late in the evening.
