
Minister of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Radha Mohan Singh today said, India is a world leader in milk production but low milk yield among the Indian cows is the biggest challenge.
Inaugurating World Milk Day function in New Delhi, Mr. Singh said, the desi cow milk has to be collected, processed and sold separately for its high nutritional value and such a move would fetch better price for farmers.
Expressing concern over the decline of desi cow breeds he said, the Government’s Rashtriya Gokul Mission is an ambitious scheme, which aims at conservation and welfare of cattle and Desi cow breeds.
Minister of State Sudarshan Bhagat, stressed on the crucial role of milk in eliminating malnutrition among children. Mr. Bhagat said, dairy sector is the back bone of village economy and the sector has a crucial role to play in doubling Farmers income.
