High-speed Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express flagged off

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off India’s newest luxury train – the Tejas Express from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus this afternoon. Its first trip is a nine hour-long journey to Karmali station in Goa.

After flagging off India’s first Tejas Express, Mr. Prabhu said, the train will bring in a new era of travel experience with state-of-art on board facilities and enhanced passenger comfort.

The fully air conditioned Tejas Express, announced in Railway Budget 2016, has a passenger capacity of 992 passengers. The bright yellow hi-tech train is fitted with 9-inch LED screens, wifi and revamped luxurious interiors.

Offering airline-like features, this train has reclining seats, smoke and fire detectors, bio-vacuum toilets, digital destination boards, integrated braille displays, USB charging facility and energy efficient LED lights.

Central Railway’s General Manager D K Sharma said that Tejas Express will run between Mumbai and Goa for five days a week during non-monsoon period and three days a week during monsoon by halting at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Ratnagiri and Kudal stations.
