
Textile Ministry has trained more than 7.5 lakh individuals through Integrated Skill Development Scheme in the last three years to make them employable.
Addressing a press conference on the achievements of her Ministry in New Delhi today, Textile Minister Smriti Irani said, around 6 lakh individuals have been placed in wage employment, while others are self employed.
She said, more than 70 per cent of the trainees are women. Mrs Irani said, presently the textile sector employs over 45 million people and additional requirement is about 17 million by 2022.
She said, weavers MUDRA Portal, eDhaga, Bunkar Mitra and other initiatives have benefited weavers. Mrs Irani said, Handicrafts Exports have also increased from 26,212 crore in 2013-14 to 35,020 crore rupees in 2016-17.
The Minister said, Textiles India- 2017 will be held from 30th of next month to boost the industry. Mrs Irani said, six international road shows have been conducted so far to attract foreign investment into India.
