Jammu and Kashmir police has foiled a major attempt to revive militancy in Chenab Valley by arresting five terrorists who had developed links in Pakistan as well as with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commanders in the Kashmir valley. The module was working to revive militancy in the Doda- Kishtwar-Ramban region.
They were instrumental in attack on Tanta Kahara police post under Gandoh police station in Doda district in which an SPO was killed on the intervening night of May 7 and 8. Addressing a press conference in Jammu yesterday, IGP Jammu Zone SD Singh Jamwal said the LeT module had been trying to revive militancy in the Chenab valley. He said, five nabbed persons include an SPO and a former Territorial Army personnel.
In yet another incident of ceasefire violation along the Line of Control, Pakistani forces today resorted to heavy firing and shelling in Manjakote and Keri sectors of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Defence sources told media that the Pakistani forces started unprovoked firing and shelling targeting Indian posts and civilian areas around 7 this morning.
The troops guarding the border retaliated and gave a befitting reply. Intermittent exchange of fire is still continuing. Heavy mortars, automatics and small arms are being used by Pakistani forces.
There is no report of any causality or injury to the Indian side so far.Yesterday, two civilians were killed while five others were injured in adjoining Naushera sector in Pakistani shelling.
