Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has been declared a proclaimed offender and the process to attach his assets has been initiated.
National Investigation Agency (NIA) said in New Delhi that the order declaring Naik a proclaimed offender was issued recently by a special court in Mumbai, after which the process of attachment of his assets was initiated.
Naik is being probed under terror and money-laundering charges by NIA. The agency had, in November last year, registered a criminal case against the controversial preacher at its Mumbai branch under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Naik fled from India in July last year after terrorists in Bangladesh claimed that they were inspired by his speeches.
