The positive results of the Naxalite Surrender, Victim Relief, and Rehabilitation Policy 2025, implemented by the Government of Chhattisgarh, are now visibly taking shape on the ground. As part of a special approval from the central government for 15,000 housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and through the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the first special house in the state has been completed for a Naxal-affected family.

This house has been provided to Mrs. Sodi Hungi, wife of the late Mr. Masa Sodi, in the village of Oiras, Gram Panchayat Gadiras, district Sukma. It marks the first home built under a special project aimed at rehabilitating Naxal-affected families and surrendered Naxalites. This is not only a symbol of the government’s sensitivity but also a milestone in the journey toward victim rehabilitation.

Mrs. Sodi Hungi lost her husband in 2005 when Naxalites brutally killed him with sharp weapons on suspicion of being a police informer. The extremely poor family was forced to live in a makeshift mud hut for years, facing leaky roofs during monsoons and the constant threat of venomous insects.

In the financial year 2024–25, upon being found eligible under this special project, her name was proposed for a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) by Gram Panchayat Gadiras. Once the proposal was approved, a total of ₹1.35 lakh was disbursed to her account in three installments. Thanks to the government’s transparent process, technical guidance, and regular monitoring, the construction was completed on July 8, 2025. Mrs. Hungi and her family have now moved into their new permanent home.

In addition to housing, Mrs. Hungi also received benefits from other schemes, including:

Sanction of a toilet under the Swachh Bharat Mission

90 days’ wages under MGNREGA

A ration card, Ayushman card, and other social security benefits

Her sons expressed gratitude, saying, “Our family is now able to live safely and with dignity. This has been made possible by the district administration, the village panchayat, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. We thank Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the Central Government for designing such a compassionate and effective policy for Naxal victims and surrendered Naxalites.”

This special housing initiative marks a major step forward in the rehabilitation of families affected by Naxalism in Chhattisgarh. Thanks to the leadership and initiative of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the central government has approved 15,000 special houses for Naxal-affected and surrendered Naxal families. Construction is progressing rapidly for these homes. In Sukma district, under the guidance of Collector Shri Devesh Kumar Dhruv, the work is actively underway.
