State’s First Forest Science Centre to Open in Asna, Bastar

Chhattisgarh’s first Forest Science Centre will be established at Asna in the Bastar Forest Division. Approval for this has been granted by the National CAMPA Mission, Government of India. In the 23rd Implementation Committee meeting of the National CAMPA, it was decided to start one Forest Science Centre each on a pilot basis in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh. In Chhattisgarh, the Forest Science Centre will start in Asna, Bastar. A state-level advisory committee, chaired by the Chief Conservator of Forests, Jagdalpur Circle, has been constituted for its operation, training, and curriculum determination. This committee also includes 8 subject experts.
The advisory committee for the Forest Science Centre includes Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Raipur, along with experts Shri Rajesh Gupta from Jashpur, Dr. Sanjeevan Kumar (Associate Professor at Shaheed Mahendra Karma University Bastar), Shri Girish Kuber, Shri Rajiv Sharma, Dr. M.L. Nayak, Shri Subodh Manohar Pandey from Raipur, and Dr. Rahul Mungikar from Pune, Maharashtra. The Chief Conservator of Forests of Surguja Circle will also be a member of the committee. The Divisional Forest Officer of Bastar has been nominated as the Member Secretary of the committee. The nominated subject experts in the committee will not be provided any honorarium or salary for their cooperation in the operation, training, and curriculum determination of the Forest Science Centre.
