Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has expressed concerns over the arrest of eight fishermen along with their two mechanized boats mid-sea by Srilanka in the late hours on Wednesday.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has pointed out another incident the same day in which a mechanized boat has been rammed by the Srilankan naval vessel leading to its sinking.

The four men in the boat who were left at the mercy of the sea were rescued by fellow fishermen in other boats.

The chief minister has demanded action to secure the release of fifty fishermen in total who are languishing in jails in the island nation. He has also urged that the 143 fishing boats that have been impounded by Srilanka should be released at the earliest.
