Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has urged the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to restore status quo in the process of casting of votes for the Bru people living in relief camps in Tripura.
The Chief Minister in his letter to Rajnath Singh expressed his deep shock and surprise over the order of ouster of state’s principal secretary (home) by the election commission of India (ECI). The ECI earlier ordered transfer of principal secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo for his interference to election process, including denial of special arrangement for casting votes by the displaced Bru people.
Over the issue, State BJP President Prof. J.V. Hluna yesterday made a plea to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking all his power to neutralise the present situation. In the letter to the PM Modi he expressed solidarity to the Mizo civil society that demanded removal of CEO S. B. Shashank.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral officer S. B Shashank yesterday said that he never had any intention to hurt the sentiments of local population. Talking to media he said he strictly went by the rules. Shri Shashank further applealed to the civil society to rise up their rational and should understand the position of an officer and what he is supposed to do.
