Maharashtra cabinet has decided to hold a special session of Maharashtra legislature on May 17.
According to a notification by the State’s parliamentary affairs department, the session will focus on passing Maharashtra Goods and Service Tax and other related legislations.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in State secretariat in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The Maharashtra legislature had in a special sitting in August last year ratified the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill passed by the Parliament.
Parliament has passed the central GST and Integrated GST Bill and the President has given his assent to the Bill. The GST is expected to come into force from July 1.
States can also levy GST in accordance of the powers vested with them. The special session of both houses of the state legislature will be held on May 17 to pass the state specific GST Bill.
