Yoga National Tournaments adopt virtual mode amid lockdown

Under the aegis of the Yoga Federation of India, the 44 National Sub-Junior and Junior Yoga Sports Championship will be held through online mode instead of manual for the first time from June 6 to 21.

Federation general secretary Sanjay Kumar Jha said the one of its kind online yoga championship is being organized on virtual platform considering the Covid-19 pandemic. All the preparations for online competition have been completed under the supervision of federation president Ashok Kumar Agarwal.

Online meeting with the referee panel constituted by the Federation has been finalized regarding the matter. Over 900 contestants from 22 states have registered in the competition scheduled June on 6,7, 13, 14 and 20, 21. Following the norms, the age category is divided as, 8–10 year, 10–12 years, 12–14 years, 14–16 years and 16–18 years for male and female professional category.

The list of other partners including the referee panel has been released by the Federation. Jha said the inaugural ceremony will be held on June 6, while the closing ceremony is on June 21 marking Yoga Day.

He added that for past 44 years a national competition is being organized continuously. For the first time, online competition is hosted by the government by following the guide line regarding Covid-19 epidemic.
