Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to make the country plastic free, Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu launched Citizen Foundation’s ‘Plastic Free Future Campaign’ at Governor House on Friday. She urged denizens to discharge their duties in creating a plastic free future.
Plastic usage is hazardous for human and environment. Also, she suggested replacing plastic bags with paper or cloth bags.
Apart from Citizen Foundation Secretary Ganesh Reddy, Principal Secretary to Governor Satyendra Singh, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray, Brigadier SK Prasad, Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF) AT Mishra and several prominent social activists were present on this occasion. They pledged not to use plastic.
The State Forest, Environment and Climate Change department is aiming to work actively over this initiative. Mishra informed of starting 100 percent plastic free drive in city parks particularly Biodiversity Park and Oxygen Park. “Our aim is to make these areas as plastic free zones,” he said.
Meanwhile, Citizen Foundation has decided to carry the campaign by reaching out the common people at grassroot level. “Citizen Foundation is committed to minimize use of single use plastic. We will be providing alternatives such as sloth bags as much as cheapest in market through different locations in Ranchi,” said Reddy.
