
In Himachal Pradesh, there are more than 1 lac 3 thousand voters who are of around eighty years of age. Mr. Shyam Saran Negi of Kinnuar district has been declared the oldest voter by ECI in 2009 Lok Sabha Election. He celebrated his 100th Birthday in June, 2017.
Mr. Negi has been casting his vote for the last 67 years and he is again scheduled to cast his vote in the assembly elections on Nov. 9.
Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur district Dr. Naresh Kumar Lath told AIR that Mr. Negi will be welcomed with the red carpet at the polling station and he will be honoured by SDM with Kinnauri Cap. A retired school teacher Mr. Negi from Kalpa village of Kinnaur District had cast vote first time in first general election held in 1951 after independence.
Mr. Negi told that he did not lose any chance of casting his vote in any election from Panchayat to Lok Sabha election. In 2010, then-chief election commissioner Navin Chawla visited Negi’s village to honour him as part of the Election Commission’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
