Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has ordered an enquiry into the death of a child during treatment at the Fortis Hospital, Gurugram and alleged overcharging by the hospital.

The hospital reportedly slapped a bill of 18 lakh rupees for treatment of the child suffering from dengue. In a statement in Chandigarh yesterday, the Minister said, a senior officer will investigate the case and directions have been given to submit the report at the earliest.

Mr Vij said, strict action will be taken against the guilty and no hospital will be allowed to play with the health of patients.

The Centre had asked the Haryana Government to urgently initiate an enquiry into alleged overcharging by the hospital.

In a letter to the Principal Secretary (Health) of Haryana, Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan said, the report in this regard should be submitted to the Health Ministry within two weeks.
