The Congress in Maharashtra has made it clear that the opposition parties in the state had come together only to jointly take up the demand for a farm loan waiver and not as part of an electoral alliance.

The Congress reaction came in the backdrop of the NCP advocating a larger alliance of non-BJP parties against the Devendra Fadnavis government.

Congress spokesman Ratnakar Mahajan said in Mumbai that the Opposition unity was for struggle to get farmers their due against the backdrop of agrarian crisis. The decision on electoral alliances will be taken when the need arises and as per prevailing political situation.
