CBI today filed charge-sheet against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife in a special court in Delhi in a disproportionate assets case.
The Delhi High Court had earlier in the day denied them any relief and removed the interim stay on his interrogation or arrest.
The charge sheet was filed against nine people including the 82-year-old Congress leader for alleged offences punishable under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act. It also named LIC agent Anand Chauhan, who is currently in judicial custody.
Chauhan was arrested by Enforcement Directorate in July last year in a separate money laundering case related to the present case.
Bhartiya Janta Party leaders have demanded Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s resignation. The State Party President Sat Pal Sati termed filling of Charge Sheet against Chief Minister as shameful for state, and alleged that the Congress government in the state has been gloating in corruption.
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has said that he would challenge the Delhi High Court decision in double bench or Supreme Court. He termed the case as a political vendetta against him.
On the other hand Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and several other BJP leaders have demanded resignation from Virbhadra Singh saying that Chief Minister has no moral right to remain in office after filling of charge sheet by CBI.
Meanwhile, Congress ruled out the removal of Virbhadra Singh. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said there was nothing to worry about in the case as it was done out of political vendetta and Virbhadra Singh will fight it out and emerge victorious.
