Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiromani Akali Dal alliance has won the Rajouri Garden By poll election in Delhi. The alliance candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa defeated his nearest rival Congress Candidate Meenakshi Chandela by over 14 thousand votes. Mr Sirsa got 40,602 votes while the congress candidate garnered 25,950 votes.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harjeet Singh was on a third position and got only 10,243 votes and lost his deposit.

With the victory, the BJP’s tally in the 70-member Delhi Assembly will become four. The Congress does not have any presence in the House. The seat was vacant from early this year after AAP’s Jarnail Singh quit as MLA to contest the Punjab Assembly poll.

Mr Sirsa said, Aam Aadmi party has done nothing to ensure the development of Delhi in the last two years and because of this people have reposed their faith in the BJP. Reacting over the party’s candidate defeat, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia admitted that people were upset with the party over its legislator quitting to contest from Punjab.
