In Assam, 170 villages are affected due to floods in five districts. Land erosion has also created problems in many areas. Official sources said that several tributaries of the Brahmaputra are flowing above the danger mark. Flood water submerged huge crop areas.

Around 55 thousand people are reeling under the fury of floods in Darrang district. Ten relief camps have been set up at Udalguri and Sonitpur districts where nearly four thousand people have taken shelter. Relief materials are being distributed by district administrations.

Flood and erosion breached river embankments and also damaged roads in several districts. State Water Resource minister Keshab Mahanta has visited affected areas and instructed the concerned department to take necessary steps.
