
In Assam, the five day long Namami Brahmaputra festival concluded today.Union Road Transport minister Nitin Gadkari, Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh have attended the closing ceremony in Guwahati.
An MoU to dredge the Brahmaputra has been signed among the Assam government, NHAI and Inland Waterways Authority of India.Addressing the gathering, Mr.Gadkari said that 111 rivers have been declared as waterways in the country. He said that , Sagarmala project will be carried out at the cost of 15 lakh crore rupees.
As per reports, the dredging of the Brahmaputra will change the entire economic corridor of Assam as Brahmaputra National waterway-II will have direct access to Chittagong port of Bangladesh and Haldia port of West Bengal .
