
The Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar will start its maiden direct international flight to Kuala Lumpur tonight. Air Asia will fly four times a week to the Malaysian capital on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The scheduled flight will take off at 11:55 pm tonight from Bhubaneswar.
In February, the Odisha government signed Memorandum of Agreement with Air Asia on Viability Gap Funding model. Sources said as per the agreement, the State tourism department will compensate the airline in case of less than minimum seats goes vacant.
The agreement also said the Odisha government will give a subsidy contribution of around 2 lakh rupees in each trip.
