Delhi govt forms vigilance committee to probe sewer deaths

A Vigilance Committee has been set up by the Delhi Government to look into the recent sewer deaths in the city. This was announced by the Delhi Minister Rajendra Gautam after two workers died while cleaning sewer in Anand Vihar area yesterday.

The duo had inhaled toxic gases while cleaning a sewer. Police said, two firefighters, involved in the rescue operation, also inhaled the toxic gas and have been admitted to the hospital and one of them in a critical condition.

It may be recalled that in the past one month seven people have lost their lives by inhaling noxious fumes while cleaning sewer – 3 in Lajpat Nagar and 4 in Ghitorni.
