
In Bathinda district of Punjab ten people were killed and three injured on Wednesday near village Bhucho Khurd on the Bathinda-Barnala road when they were run over by a speeding truck due to poor visibility. All the pasengers were waiting for an alternative transport on the roadside after the bus in which they were travelling broke down.
The rashly driven truck first rammed a Tata Sumo and then the paasengers who were standing on the roadside. The incident also led to a pile-up involving a PRTC bus, a private bus and four to five cars, 50 metres away from the spot. However, no casualties were reported in it, though a few people were injured. All the injured were rushed to the civil hospital in Bathinda.
Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra and SSP Naveen Singla rushed to the spot.After the incident the truck driver fled from the spot. The Punjab government has announced ex-gratia of one lakh rupees each for the families of deceased and Rs 50 thousand each for the injured.
