Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai held a high-level review meeting of the Energy Department, discussing in detail the state’s electricity supply situation, future needs, and progress of infrastructure development. It was found in the meeting that significant steps are being taken towards strengthening the electricity infrastructure in the state, considering the increasing energy demand.
The Chief Minister reviewed the strategic plans, keeping in mind the state’s long-term energy needs, and directed their speedy implementation. The main points of the review were the supply and availability of electricity in the state, and upcoming projects.
It was informed in the meeting that demand has increased in the state in recent years, but electricity availability could not be ensured according to the demand. No plans were made to set up new power plants in the state. The Chief Minister reviewed the preparations keeping in mind the demand for the next 10 years.
It was brought to the notice of the power company that a 1320 MW capacity thermal power plant will be established in Korba by the production company in the coming years. In addition, agreements have been made to purchase 50 percent of the electricity from the plants being set up by NTPC in the state, which will provide 1200 MW of electricity to the state by the year 2027-28.
In addition, keeping in mind the future needs, an action plan is being made to achieve additional electricity generation capacity in the coming years, and it is being seriously implemented. Apart from increasing the thermal power generation capacity, various projects are being rapidly advanced on a large scale to increase the production of pump storage-based hydropower plants and battery storage solar power plants. This will make electricity available during peak load times in addition to normal periods.
Extensive work is being done to utilize surplus electricity available in other states in the state through inter-state transmission projects. Efforts are being made to increase electricity availability by reducing line losses under the R.D.S.S. scheme. More and more power purchase agreements have been made to obtain electricity from central sector thermal power plants.
It was informed in the meeting that there is no declared or undeclared power cut in the state. Chhattisgarh state is one of the select states in the country that provides more and cheaper electricity to farmers.
It is noteworthy that 18 hours of free electricity is being provided to the farmers of the state. Even if there is an unexpected shortage in power supply, the state power company purchases electricity through exchange at expensive rates to provide continuous electricity to farmers and consumers. Major measures of online IT solutions have also been taken for electricity consumer service. In the Bijli Mitan Bot service, consumers can register their complaints and get solutions through WhatsApp. Encouraging results have also been received from measures like Mor Bijli app, 1912 service, and local call centers.
