World Cup: Switzerland hold Brazil to 1-1 draw; Mexico beat Germany 1-0

In the Football World Cup, Switzerland held the five-time world champions Brazil to a One-One draw in a Group E match at the Rostov Arena last night.

Philippe Coutinho gave Brazil a perfect start by scoring a stunning goal in the 20th minute. Steven Zuber scored the equaliser for Switzerland in the 50th minute and snatched a point from one of the tournament favourites.

Earlier, Mexico beat defending champion Germany 1-0 in a group F match in Moscow. Hirving Lozano’s brilliant goal at the 35th minute gave Mexico a 1-0 lead at half-time break. Four time champion Germany came out all guns blazing in the second half but failed to penetrate Mexican defence.

In another Group E match, Serbia defeated Costa Rica by 1-0 at Samara. Serbia’s Aleksandar Kolarov converted a free kick into a goal at 56th minute of the game. Serbia is back at the World Cup for the first time since 2010.

Today, Sweden will take on Korea Republic in a group F encounter while Belgium will clash with Panama in a Group G match at Fisht Stadium in Sochi. In an another group G match, England will take on Tunisia in Vogograd.
